Verlies van expressie (komt tot expressie in epitheel cellen) duidt op een hogere graad van invasiviteit en verhoogde maligne potentie in verschillende carcinomen, inclusief longkanker.
Wordt ook gebruikt voor de differentiaal diagnose tussen lobulair en ductaal carcinoom van de borst (ductaal is positief en lobulair negatief).
