Appendix is expressing desmine in the muscle layers and in the small blood vessels.
Appendix: Both the smooth muscle cells of the appendiceal lamina propria and most of the smooth muscle cells of the submucosal vessels show a distinct staining.
Embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma: the majority of the neoplastic cells show a strong distinct reaction with no background reaction
Mesothelioma: The remnants of the normal reactive mesothelial cells are stained, while the neoplastic cells are negative

Tonsil, pancreas: glad spierweefsel in kleine vaten. Sklet spier: een intense cytoplasmatische expressie in de Z-banden van de spiercellen. Komt tot expressie in skelet spier, gladspierweefsel en hartspierweefsel.
Desmine wordt in een panel gebruikt voor het identificeren van leiomyosarcoom, rhabdomyosarcoom en andere tumoren met myeloïde differentiatie en voor de klassificatie van mesenchymale, pleiomorfe, spindel cel en rondcel tumoren.
(is ook bruikbaar in sereuze vochten omdat desmine meer tot expressie komt in reactief mesotheel (84%) dan in mesotheliomen (8%) en carcinomen (2%).
