Buiten de placenta komt HCG voor in hypofyse en in reactief gastrointestinaal epitheel.
Wordt gebruikt voor de classificatie van kiemcel tumoren en voor de identificatie van extragonadale kiemcel tumoren. b-HCG komt tot expressie in molas, choriocarcinomen, chorio componenten in kiemcel tumoren en syncytiotrophoblastaire cellen in seminomen/dysgerminomen en embryonaal cel carcinomen.
